I did the 30 day challenge. No breads, no white sugar, no rice. I lowered my carbs to less than 30g daily. And I did intermittent fasting with some OMAD. I lost 18 pounds so far, my skin is clearer and I'm not as itchy(as funny as that sounds). After 3 days, I had NO appetite. I have so much less pain, stiffness and I don't get so sleepy after a meal. I have been walking about 3 miles a week as well. I drive a truck so there are real challenges at the truck stop coffee station. Never a lack of donuts, cakes or sweets. But I did it and I feel great. If I can do it, I know you can too.

I will share my experience that is similar. I had to be on a special medical diet related to iodine. This test required that my blood urine iodine level be very low. To facilitate this I was required to abstain from ANY processed foods because the salt used could not be verified as non-iodine. It was supposed to last one week but due to a mix up, I had not been using the correct non-iodized salt on my food it went on for a month+. I had always thought I was eating a fairly good diet but one week in I was craving foods I was accustomed to. So much so I could say the food most of us eat today is a drug. Truly if not for the incentive I would have gone back to the way I was eating. But shortly thereafter that craving faded away. I had begun losing weight and until it was all said and done I had lost 30 pounds and dropped a pants size. I was not thinking about food and became satisfied eating two meals a day because I was not hungry. I felt better and honestly realized what I stated earlier to compare our food as a drug. I learned that I just did not want to eat like I had because I felt sluggish afterward. I was very disappointed yet actually came to know what feeling good really felt like. Yes, I have slipped a bit but at least I have a reference to base what it takes to truly be good to my body.
I will add that I was amazed at how much salt is in the foods we eat. I was urged to buy meats from a butcher shop because fresh meats that are prepackaged contain salt. I learned a lot from having to read labels.

I quit sugar, alcohol and carbs a year ago. At first I added in a ton of veggies but developed some bad sensitivities (oxalates, salicylates, histamine) leading to diarrhea, nausea, eczema…. Now, I’m mainly eating protein and fat. I’m at my ideal weight, working out, no cravings, rarely hungry, mentally clear and happy. No cholesterol issues, my testosterone went up and I have energy as I did in my early 30s. The reality is that falling off the wagon is not unusual, and in fact its a good idea to give yourself permission to have a 'break' every once in a while, like 2 weeks, monthly, etc.
When I do mine, I go for quality over quantity, as in my favorite Burrito Gordo carne asada with rice and beans vs candy and snacks.
The next day, usually Sunday I just don't eat anything or just meat and vegetables to compensate a little and within 2 days I'm back in ketosis.
And thats coming from a borderline T2 diabetic, and even with those breaks my quarterly A1C is always coming back at just below T2 at per-diabetic level.
Instead of living with the stress of doing without, refocus it as x days until my next reward.

  • @edupassionata8938
    @edupassionata8938 2 месяца назад +82

My worst time was diagnosed T2B when I weighed 95 kg, with an A1C of 9% . I knew I had to make a change, so I made two life-altering decisions. First, I quit my office job and left the confines of the office chair. I took up a role in the warehouse-what I like to call my employer-paid gym membership. Now, I get a solid 7 hours of exercise every day, and I get paid for it. The second decision was even tougher-I cut out sugar and drastically reduced carbs. On the weekend, I go hiking & kayaking. This also give me an opportunity to benefit from sunlight. The results have been incredible. My weight has dropped to 70 kg, and my A1C is now a steady 5.6%. Best of all, I no longer need insulin. This journey taught me that we all have the power to change our lives. But the key is to start today.

Whats funny when trying to explain Keto to people is how they give you the sideways stink-eye when you tell them you really don't get 'hungry' like you used to.
At least for me, when I'm in Ketosis, if I have a big breakfast 3-4 eggs, 6-7oz bacon/sausage, 1 slice of rye bread for my 18g carbs and 6 PM rolls around and I'm not hungry though I sort of feel just the faintest inkling that maybe I could/should eat something.
A number of times I'll just eat some cream cheese or similar and it can be days before I realize I'm having a hard time forcing myself to eat even the 1700-1800 calories at deficit.
All sorts of back/musco-skeletal pain is 90-95% gone, not sure if its the 30-40# or a big drop in diet related inflammation.

My A1C result registered at 6.6 and was diagnosed as diabetic last July 3rd, 2024. My doctor gave me 6 months to lose weight before giving me medication. I was 202lbs, BMI was at 32.6 (obese). So the next day, I started quitting added sugar and minimal carbs. I was able to skip breakfast altogether because luckily, I'm used to it anyways. Lunch was the biggest meal for me, with a big bowl of blanched or sauteed veggies, humus or baba ganoush dip, sprinkled with chia and flax seeds, and a small serving of meat or fish. I also followed Glucose Revolution's suggestion to eat fiber first, then protein, then carbs last (minimal to none for me). When I felt hungry, I ate a handful of blueberries, sometines with greek yogurt, or nuts (cashews or almonds) and water. I also found a flourless cookie recipe which is peanut butter, eggs, baking soda and stevia, (88% dark chocolate optional). Same thing for dinner but less meat if I can manage. I also ate baked tofu with spices as a substitute. Also did some exercise like walking atleast 5,000 steps 3- 5 times a week. In only a few weeks time I was able to cut out added carbs completely. I also realized I'm getting less and less hungry, so I refined my diet even more by eating more veggies and fruits with low GI and less meat (substituted with tofu). Two months to this day I've lost 22lbs, my BMI at 29.0 (from obese to overweight), BP hasn't spiked since and overall, I feel great, and will keep on going!

I told him this was going to be an experimental and educational year for me, for my health and lifestyle. As soon as he saw the results I was getting, he jumped on board. After quite some time, I did learn to make chocolate donuts from an avocado and cake from a zucchini using Stevia ( be careful of the ingredients, NO maltodextrin) because I felt like I was ready to try a snack just to see if my cravings would return. They didn't and it's enjoyable to be able to have a treat once a month or so. I'm glad you're getting healthier! And I hope your husband would be willing to try some no carb treats. I did find some pure stevia "syrups" that we add to bubble water, also as an occasional treat. It can be a bit expensive so that also keeps us mindful that it is not meant to enjoyed on a daily basis. Just please research all artificial sweeteners before you buy or consume them. Many will shoot your insulin through the roof. Of course, Dr Ekberg has very informative videos on those as well. I watched them and then started my research on the internet. I've learned to read nutrition labels and then ingredients...and now my husband does too. I wish you all the best and I hope your husband joins you in your new healthier lifestyle☺

    Good day good souls!
I recently finished reading Robin Sharma's newest book "the wealth money can't buy"
And in one of the chapters he issued a 30day sugar free challenge.
My 30days sugar free ended on August 22nd and I've decided to just keep on with the fast. Along with intermittent fasting and two workouts a day, sometimes adding a hike on top of that I have lost 23lbs. Delicious snacks abound in the apartment, do to my roomate, but I have lost all the cravings for them.
When I first began I did have to pick up the bag of chips or lemon biscottis, from time to time, read the ingredients say my little mantra "I deserve better". Another auto suggestion that helped me is "I've had it before".
I look forward to seeing what I can achieve in a year with this level of discipline.
    God bless.

You can do anything for thirty days. 😊 At first your brain tries to convince you that you're missing out on something but that's the sugar gremlin whispering in your ear. If you can increase protein healthy fats and veggies that keep you fuller longer and it can help with cravings.
I can tell when I've been consuming too much sugar and sugar substitutes. It's summer time and I love peaches and strawberries but I was eating too many and it has been causing cravings, mood swings and aching in the joints of my fingers. Your body doesn't look at the sugars found in fruit differently than refined sugar even sugar substitutes can stimulate insulin response (maybe not for everyone but for me they do). A year ago I began with cutting back and cutting out sugary drinks and sweets really junk food in general. After a while I was able to even taste the sweetness in red wine vinegar. The benefit for me drastically reducing sugar as well as bread, pasta and rice. In about 6-8 months went from a size 20 to a size 14 and at the one year mark, the weight so far is staying off. A reframe might be to think of introducing sugar to your diet like sprinkling poison on your food. What ever works for you you can do it. 👍

I'm 57 years old, menopausal not on hrt. Skin definitely improved, less dry and itchy, hair thicker and fresh growth! and nails are stronger, eyesight improved to where i can read larger writing on bottles in shower without glasses, no IBS, no bloating, onsiderable liver shrinkage, no indigestion, solid sleep and less tired in the day, more energy, clearer head more focus at work and no brain fog, waking up with fresher breath, coping better with stress and no anxiety, feeling happier and lost 9 inches around the waist and 26lbs. I found i was peeing a lot overnight for 7 days rather than 1 but imagine that was due to obesity and shedding a lot of fluid weight. I dropped 10lbs in week 1.

I shared the results with an old friend, a pharmacist, who laid it on the line and told me if I wanted to see my grandkids grow up I'd better 1. cut sugar out 2. cut carbs to LOW LOW LOW 3. eat more butter and avocados. I did that, starting the next day. The result? in three months my blood work was NORMAL. My body aches, pains and stiffness were gone. I was sleeping better than I had in many years. My asthma disappeared. My gout disappeared. Now , if I''m away from home for a week and "forced" to eat breads, etc I can feel it in my joints..... Not fun. Thirty days is doable, treat yourself to a better life and leave sugar/wheat behind.

At start of pandemic, February 2020, I stumbled across this channel and started transitioning my diet. Over about 2-3 months, I went from 3-4 meals a day plus 3-6 snacks, changed nothing, just ate all the snacks until they were gone, then didn't replace them. Next, ate one meal less every 2-3 days, for about 2 weeks. So after about 6-8 weeks, I was down to one meal a day. I didn't really change what I ate or how much in total, except I cut out all sugar, honey, jelly, processed snacks, and added extra butter, olive oil, coconut oil, and reduced pasta and rice a bit. Ate more eggs. 3 important changes occured by 6 months. I had lost about 30% of my body weight, from 210 to 150-ish (I have a disability with low muscle mass thus lower weight), my weight in my youth had been 120-130, thus my “ideal”. The second thing was that my “high” cholesterol, for which I had been prescribed a statin but only taken for a week or two, came down all by itself. The third thing, for the past 4 years, I have not once been sick, except sneeze here or there, one or two mild fevers, one or two sore throats. No ailment lasting more than about 6 hours or so, or less, and so minor as not to be noticeable. I still eat rice or pasta daily, as I feel violently unwell without some. I could optimize further, but being poor and on fixed income and food benefits, I can't afford full keto, so I must rely on cheap rice or pasta or potatos as fillers to keep me feeling satiated but also from feeling unwell. It makes it impossible to lose the final 20-30 pounds. But I can still have cake and ice cream once a month or so, maintain weight, accept a few days of cravings and sore neck lymph nodes as a result of the sugar hit. Not the best but way better than I was doing. Less mood eating as well, so much less. I eat when hungry, I eat to restore energy and maintain body.

I'm similar in that I 'need' a slice of toast (Rye) with breakfast. So thats my 18g of carbs for the day. That cheap rice, pasta and potatoes are probably whats keeping you plateud(sp).
Swap those out with low starch vegetables, which should be lower carb and cost same or less. Are you sure your in ketosis, and not just on a low carb diet? Daily rice/pasta/potatoes, unless we're talking spoonfuls, are 16-20 carbs for about 2 teaspoonsful.

I’m 48, Carnivore diet for last 6 months…2nd day into no sugar/carbs I cried. I lay back in my bed and realized I had a feeling that I had not known in my body since I was a little kid! I did not know how badly I was feeling until I suddenly felt good. You will not know how badly you have become until you stop sugar. I actually felt whole in my body again…that constant buzzing, electric feeling was gone. That inflammation feeling has not come back.
I have lost 40 lbs, endless energy, leap out of bed in the morning, no 2 pm urge to nap, and Everyone that has not seen me for a while make loud noises expressing how impressed they are.
They recoil in horror, though when I tell them that it is zero sugar. They almost always respond with, “oh, my chocolate, oh my wine, oh my pastries, etc. I could never give that up!!” Then a change in subject or more excuses using words and phrases like “moderation” and “you don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water”.
I think one main problem is that sugar=magic, Christmas, birthdays, grandma’s cookies, parties, dessert, night out with the girls, etc.
Well played, Big Sugar, well played. Crack/ meth would love such loving associations. As a home care nurse, I wish I could instead show my pictures of all the leg ulcers, colostomies, and neuropathic injuries that are made worse with every stubbed toe on their wheel chairs… and associate sugar with this!

We need to promote the downsides of sugar more. I’m a week late reading this, but I’m still going to do the challenge. Currently the only sugar I’m having is fruit! When we talk about 'quitting sugar', what does that actually entail? Since lots of things we eat contain sugar - not to state the obvious ones, but even tomato sauce (ketchup) has sugar in it. Fruit does. Even the soy milk I have in my coffee contains 1.6g/100ml. So when the challenge is to quit sugar for 30 days, does it mean to strictly remove all those things from my diet? Even my oats with fruit, chia, nuts I have for breakfast? Or in other words, what would a strictly sugar free diet look like? Essentially no carbs at all?

Whenever I detox from sugar, I can taste the sugar in vegetables! I am getting older and starting to experience some of the complications mentioned here in a severe way. I finally e edges the discipline to cut out all sugars and starches 2 months ago. My overall inflammation disappeared. My rotator cup pain in my shoulder is so vastly reduced, I can now sleep on my side. The irritation of my sheets touching my toes and my heels is gone. Now that my body is regulating blood sugars levels on its own (by burning fat) I no longer feel lethargic. My cravings are gone. I sleep better. But most important my INCONTINENCE went away. I have to also mention the late Dr. Atkins here. It was reading his book that first educated my on IR. Being young I have had a 5-year yoyo curve with my weight and Sugar Abuse. But I want to greatly thank Dr. Elbert for this specific video. I needed the refresher to help keep me motivated. I will definitely pass it on to multiple friends and family. 5 STARS!
